Information on Crane Prairie boat rentals, jet skis, boat tours, and water sport lessons at this reservoir which is man-made located about 42 miles southwest of Bend in Deschutes County, Oregon. The reservoir gets its name from the cranes that thrive in its habitat and the upper Deschutes River prairie that once covered the area.
The lake is enjoyable for all types of outdoor water sports some of which include; water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, kneeboading, wake surfing, and paddleboarding. In 1922, a dam was constructed on the river for flood control and irrigation purposes. In the 21st century, the reservoir serves as one of Oregon's largest rainbow trout fisheries. The heaviest trout ever caught in the lake weighed 19 pounds.
