It is located on the east shore of the lake of the same name within the Winema National Forest, about a mile south of Oregon Route 140. The Lake of the Woods, with Mount McLoughlin in the background, is a popular recreation area for locals and worldwide tourist. Lake of the Woods is a natural lake that covers 1,146 acres with approximately 2.75 miles long and .75 miles wide. The lake has an average depth of 27 feet with a maximum depth of 55 feet.
There are two campgrounds with 124 campsites on the east shore of the lake. Aspen Point campground has 60 campsites and Sunset campground has 64 campsites which allow for a fun family vacation. There are also two day-use areas for swimming and picnicking. A year-around resort provides a restaurant, store, marina, and rental cabins. During the summer the lake is a popular place for wakeboarding, tubing, wakesurfing, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, boating, and water skiing. The nearby Great Meadows area is now a very popular winter recreation site, especially for snowmobile riders and cross-country skiers.
